The Human Game: Why Every Self-Help Program Has Been Missing the Point
You don’t fail because of bad habits… you stay stuck because of subconscious mud, drama-based stories, and a brain tuned to the wrong frequency.
You wake up every morning with an invisible weight strapped to your chest. Nobody else can see it, but you can feel it. Every decision, every relationship, every attempt to change your life drags against this unseen anchor.
You call it bad habits. You call it lack of willpower. You call it trauma.
But it’s not any of those things.
It’s mud.
Misguided unconscious decisions hardened into story, buried in your nervous system, running the show like a ghost director you never auditioned for.
And here’s the kicker: your brain isn’t even the source of it. It’s just the radio picking up the wrong damn frequency.
The Big Idea
For decades, the self-help industry has sold the same recycled promise: fix your habits, and you’ll fix your life. Stack morning routines. Hack your willpower. Discipline your way to destiny.
But habits aren’t the cause of stuckness. They’re the symptom.
The root of the problem lives deeper, beneath conscious awareness. It’s the mud: the subconscious stories written during moments of stress you didn’t have the wisdom to process. A betrayal, a rejection, a parent’s silence. You didn’t just feel those moments… you made decisions about who you were and what life was like. Those decisions calcified into identity.
And here’s what changes everything: leading edge physicists and philosophers, like Frederico Faggin and Bernardo Kastrup (among others), suggest consciousness isn’t even generated by the brain. Your brain doesn’t produce it. Your brain receives it. It’s a tuner, not the source.
Which means when your receiver is jammed up with mud, you keep tuning into fear-based instinct… while your intellect convinces you it’s the right move.
Real transformation? It only happens when you clear the mud and hear the voice of intuition… the signal from the “Source Field” that’s been pushing you forward all along.
The Breakdown
Mud: Not Trauma, Drama
Mud forms whenever stress meets story formation. A child scrapes their knee, looks at their parent’s horrified face, and decides: pain is dangerous, the world isn’t safe. Fast forward 30 years, and that same “decision” is still running in the background.
We all have mud. Not always trauma in the clinical sense… more often it’s drama, the everyday slights and rejections that stick to us. Enough mud and you’re hauling a ball-and-chain everywhere you go, even if you’ve learned to smile with it strapped to your ankle.
The Source Field Connection
Many experts in quantum physics are now hinting what mystics have whispered for millennia: consciousness is primary. The universe is built more like a giant brain than a machine. Your brain isn’t the creator of consciousness… it’s the antenna.
Call it God, call it Universe, call it the zero-point field. I call it the Source Field. Whatever the name, it’s always broadcasting. Synchronicities, opportunities, elevated emotions… little nudges urging you to evolve. But if your tuner is caked with mud, you mistranslate the signal as fear.
Instinct, Intuition, Intellect
This is where most people get lost. Instinct and intuition feel almost identical. Both are gut-level. Both whisper with authority.
But instinct is fear in disguise. It’s your mud pulling you back into the familiar. Intellect then shows up like a loyal defense attorney, arguing why staying stuck is “logical.”
Intuition, on the other hand, is the Source Field pushing you forward. It’s love-driven. It’s that quiet nudge toward the unknown, the scary, the foreign.
The difference? Instinct loops. Intuition opens. Instinct breeds repeated obstacles, stuck emotions, déjà vu pain. Intuition brings synchronicity, novelty, and elevated emotions.
Rewrite → Rewire → Retrain
Here’s the sequence every other program misses:
Rewrite the story. You don’t erase mud, you edit it. Access the subconscious in alpha/theta states, that dreamlike space between waking and sleep, and put a new story alongside the old.
Rewire the emotions. Mud isn’t just thoughts, words and stories, it’s feelings glued to those thoughts, words and stories. You can’t just think differently; you have to teach your emotional body what safety, love, and abundance actually feel like. If you don’t the emotions will pull you right back into the mud.
Retrain the nervous system and behaviors. This is where you embody the new self through action. Not “fake it till you make it.” That’s surface acting. This is “be it until you see it.” Method acting for identity.
This is also where my functional medicine background comes in. The nervous system needs to be soothed, rebalanced & retrained as well. Herbs, supplements, diet, lifestyle behaviors and biohacking tools can help here. Unfortunately none of these tools do much good until Rewrite & Rewire phases are addressed.
That’s also why therapy, psychedelics, meditation, and coaching so often fail: they may touch one aspect in each of these pieces, but they rarely address them fully. They also don’t understand the integration of this sequence… even if they address one area they miss the other two and/or miss the order.
The Secret Weapons
Two accelerators make this process unstoppable:
Story. Mud is cemented silence. The moment you tell your authentic story of struggle, it softens… cement to clay to puddle to clear water. Storytelling is alchemy. As Brene Brown puts it, “shame cannot survive the light of day.” One’s mud, once talked about openly, begins loosening.
Gamification. The brain changes fastest when progress is tracked, scored, rewarded. The brain is watching, judging and deciding who you are each second of everyday. If it witnesses you being different it takes note and gets on board. The Human Game turns your growth into points, levels, and wins. Every aligned action is proof. Every point re-trains your brain to see yourself differently.
Story + gamification = transformation at the speed of identity.
Practical Takeaway
Let me give you a taste of a tiny piece of a larger tool we use at Next Level Human. A hyper-efficient way to get you out beta brain wave states into alpha and theta… into the subconscious. Try this right now:
Do twenty fast, double inhales (through the nose. First into the belly then into the chest), quick passive exhale out the mouth. We call this the activating breath. Think of your mud (patterns, pains, troubles, etc) as you breathe.
Take one deep inhale and hold for 10 seconds. Here let the mind settle.
No do five slow-exhale focused breaths with sound: take a deep inhale, then a long, slow, controlled humming exhale. As you hum, imagine dissolving the mud and filling the space with calm, love, acceptance, abundance, gratitude, etc. These elevated emotions are a taste of the Rewire phase.
In around three minutes, you’ve shifted away from beta and are more likely to be moving into the direction of alpha & theta states. You’ve touched the subconscious. You’ve tasted what it feels like to change state on command.
This process gives a glimpse into the type of brain state where mud lives and where it must be met.
Closing Thought
That invisible weight you’ve been carrying? You could drag it for another decade. Same loops. Same heartbreaks. Same arguments with different faces.
Or you could drop it. Not by erasing the past, but by rewriting it, rewiring the emotions, and retraining your nervous system to play a different game.
That’s the Human Game. And once you know how to play it, life stops feeling like a punishment and starts feeling like the evolution it was always meant to be.
The Human Game
This is why I built The Human Game — the first program designed to clear your mud, align you with the Source Field, and retrain you into the identity you’ve been trying to step into for years.
Here’s how it works:
Weekly subconscious change sessions (Rewrite–Rewire–Retrain in action).
Story circles where your authentic story becomes the medicine that heals.
Daily education and gamification, delivered straight to your phone so growth doesn’t get lost in another login.
Points and rewards for real-world aligned actions, so your brain sees proof you are changing.
The complete Next Level Human philosophy, finally packaged into a game you can actually play — and win.
Most coaching programs cost as much as a mortgage payment. Some of mine have too. The Human Game is different. It’s the cost of a daily coffee — $97 a month for three months — with the option to upgrade to the full year and save $200.
It launches September 8th.
If you’ve been spinning in the same loops, this is your chance to step out of instinct and into intuition… to stop playing someone else’s script and finally play your own.
