This is a powerful "reframing," Dr. Teta. The distinction between trauma and what you call “MUD” really resonated with me, especially the idea that some of what shapes us most deeply isn’t the event itself, but the meaning we unconsciously attached to it. That's been my personal experience.

It’s also a tough pill for many to swallow. Trauma is never our fault, of course, but it is our responsibility to do the best we can to become the strongest, most whole version of ourselves despite it. That’s the heart of growth, and you capture it with real empathy here.

I especially appreciate how you connect meaning-making to physiology and the science of stress and belief. It reminds me of how, in medicine, the story we tell about a symptom can either amplify or alleviate it. The same applies here: our interpretation can become biochemical.

Your line about rewriting the source code is an excellent analogy. Healing isn’t about erasing memory, it’s about re-authoring the story in a way that restores our agency. Beautifully written, and deeply insightful work here.
